ICQ is a free chat program. It allows you to create a list of other ICQ users with whom you would like to chat. Once you've added people to your chat list, you can page them, chat and/or send email messages to those people whenever you like. It is very easy to install and configure.

I have set up a chat room so that people who add me (ICQ # 11078805) to their ICQ chat list can enter and get notice that my chat room whenever my computer is running and chat with one another without having to know any contact information about other people.

Also there is a new ICQ feature that allows me to make my entire contact list of ICQ numbers for exchange students who are online available to all other exchange students. This uses the Active List features in the latest version of ICQ. You may need to upgrade if you have had ICQ for a while. My Active List number is 53020464

Another really neat feature allows you to see the number of users who are already in the chat room by simply clicking the right mouse button on my name in your ICQ contact list and selecting "Read Chat-Room Message".

Now the bad news -- I had around 200 ICQ numbers on my exchange student list before my hard drive went up in smoke recently. If you became part of my ICQ list earlier than 10/22/99, you will need to resubscribe. My number is 11078805.
